Bring back the play bar

Hi

I'm a relatively new user.

I was going to insert my CP4 SWF file into Presnter and for that reason removed the play bar at the beginning of creating my project.

The slide properties were:

On slide enter:?Assign

Assign: cpCmndShowPlaybar

with: 0 (for off)

On slide exit: Go to next slide

Worked a treat.

However this is daft when you need to publish and review and want to go back to a particular slide becuase you see it needs editing.?Without the play bar you're up the creek without a paddle unless you've got a photographic memory for what the slide was so you can find it in the project.

So what I did is go to the Slide Properties and change to:

On slide enter:?Continue

On slide exist:?Go to next slide

And I applied all changed properties to slides of the same type (I've got some slides that require a button to be clicked before it advances to the next or jumps to a particular slide).

However, on publishing I do not get the play bar.

I've checked the Project Skin and it's selected to show the play bar.

Before applying the change to all slides of the same time I had manually changed the first four or five.?Those four or five give me the play bar then the remainder of the sliders are without the playbar, despite them all saying now to Continue.

I'm using CP4.

Can someone figure out what key step I'm missing.?It makes no sense to me.

thanks

Anita

Bring back the play bar

Hi,

Did you go back to the same slide and change the properties? I assume that you changed slide properties of another slide to 'on enter = continue' and did an 'apply to all'.

Please go to the same slide (I assume it to be the first slide) and change the 'on enter' action to continue. It must work.

Thanks,

Thejas

Bring back the play bar

Hi Anita

If you are previewing from inside Captivate, it offers its own playback controls. So if you are previewing and testing in that mode (by pressing F4 or clicking Preview %26gt; Project) you may use this playbar. Another thing to note. If you see a slide in this view that needs editing, there is a handy ''Edit'' button you may click to edit the slide being viewed.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks Rick

I was publishing and viewing in the browser.

I've used the F4 functionality from time to time, as I was first creating, but not to view the (close to) finished demo.

I don't recall seeing the Edit button, just the Close button at the same place you've highlighted.?And yep, I'd seen those controls on the right hand side.

It's Saturday here now where I'm from so I'll do this on Monday. I expect your steps will work.?However we've decided to no longer insert the finished SWF file into Presenter, but upload it as content direct to Connect Pro.?So in the end I need the play bar in the Captivate file for the user to navigate.

I had changed the slide properties on the first slide, but then I added two buttons to that slide so the slide properties are on Success.?Both buttons jump to a particular slide number.?Those slides have the play bar (they were to jump to slide 2 and slide 3 (slide 2 is a duplicate of slide 1 without the audio - basically a replay of the first slide.?Slide 2 is a continuation of the demo).

The first slide that has no internal slide navigation settings is showing to Continue.?It has the playbar.?The next one also is fine - I manually changed these before I applied the changed properties to all slides of the same type (which was the next slide in my project).?It's from there on that the playbar disappears.

All slides of the same type show the correct (changed) properties, yet no play bar appears when I view in the browser after saving the project and then publishing.

Cheers

Anita

Hi Thejas

Thanks for replying.

Yes I changed the slide properties on the first slide that had no button navigation.?I manually applied the changed setting for the first couple of slides that had no button navigation and they work.?The next slide (I think about slide 4 or 5) I applied the change properties to all slides of the same type (some of my slides have button navigation).

The slide properites on those slides of the same type show they've been correctly changed but they do not have the play bar.

Cheers

Anita

Hardware recommendations

I have some extra $$ to spend and I want to get a new laptop and upgrade my current computer. I was wondering what's the best OS/hardware for Photoshop CS4 for Windows.

I could see spending up to $2000 for the laptop, so that should get a very good one. I do want to get an 18 inch screen. This laptop is mainly for use around my house, so I won't be carrying it around much.

For upgrading my desktop, I want to keep my NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT cards as I have a 3 monitor setup that I like. I also want to keep the motherboard. I currently have an Intel E2180 processor @ 2.00 GHz, that's a socket 775 processor. I have 4 Gb of RAM. And I have XP Pro installed. I cannot get 64 bit Vista because I need to use a 32 bit VPN program to connect to work.

Thanks for any advice,

Andy

For the desktop it really depends on your motherboard's northbridge, whether it can accomodate the newer 45nm processors and how much max ram it can take. As for the laptop, can't give specifics there, you'll have to find some in your area that fit your budget and then come back so we can compare them.

adobe 9.1.2 patch

I can't open and use my reader--says it's missing a patch.?I can open pdf documents in 9, but can't print them.?I can't remove and re-install because the patch is missing.?I've also tried to install 9 again, but says a newer version exists and exits.?Any ideas on where the patch is and how I can repair my reader?

adobe 9.1.2 patch

Use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup tool to remove Reader from your system. Then download the latest full version of Reader and patch up to the latest version if necessary. Generally you must install all patches in order of their release.

    Hello

I have created a flash movie with a video in it. I used a skin when I imported

the video. It plays fine in Flash. When I export the .swf file and drag it into

Dreamweaver the skin does not show up.

Once in Dreaweaver I set the parameters to wmode_transparent...Could this be it?

If so how do I go around it b/c I will need it transparent....

    Any ideas?

    I think you in advance!!

Video is there but the skin is not when...

    Hi,

I've encountered the same problem using Flex (not Dreamweaver).

The component buttons for 'play', 'pause', 'stop' and the seekbar were visible when loaded separately. Maybe this can be a workaround?

Video is there but the skin is not when...

When we using a skin for FLVPlayback, a separateswf will generated in the name of the skin besides the main movie.

And when we embeding our movie to html, this skin swf should placed along with the html page in which the main movie embedded

I see. Do I need some code in Flex to load it?

    Thanks,

    Bart

Thank you!!! I placed my .swf files with my html and it works fine:)

    Thank you again:)

Final Cut Pro movie for web

I have a short video that I made using Final Cut Pro.

I work on a MacPro, OSX 10.5 Leopard, and CS2.

What format do I need to export my video so that I can upload it

    to a web site?

    Thanks,

    Jill

Final Cut Pro movie for web

There are several formats that will work on the web all with their own strengths and weaknesses.

1- If you want to use the video in a flash site you will have to convert teh video to FLV format. I believe that if you have the CS2 suite it has a program called Flash Video Converter (the name might be a bit different haven't used CS2 in a while). You can prety much convert any Quicktime file s from FCP.

2- If you are going to display your video in an HTML page you could instead use a QuickTime file. Compressor can make a web optimized Quicktime file for you.

I would suggest importing your ''.mov'' file into Flash then render as a flash file and upload the ''.flv'' file to your web page

    override default settings for pdf...

How do I make a pdf that will override the Acrobat Reader default settings. So that when a user opens the pdf in Reader it is initally shown as 2up (two page spread) (full screen mode) instead of single page.

    override default settings for pdf...

Go to Document Properties (Command+D) and then the Initial view tab.

Choose your desired setting in the Page Layout combo box.

Save your PDF and reopen it to see the result.

    Torben.

    override default settings for pdf...

Attached is a image of the settings in that box.

    Am I missing something?

This does not override the default settings in Reader in full screen mode. It always goes to single page.

    Thanks for your help

Instead of using Two Up (Cover Page) select Two Up (Continuous).

Instead of using Two Up (Cover Page) select Two Up (Continuous).

I tried continuous, both cover and facing, it makes no difference, the doc opens in single page.

The default setting in Reader is single page?(see attached image) .

Most of my viewers can barely open a file, much less know how or care to change any defaults.

I think maybe what I am looking for is a way to override ALL the preferences in Reader so that the viewer sees the pdf the way I set it up in Pro.

    Well, something is not right!

    You should make these settings:

    And then save the file.

If you still have a problem, please post your pdf here, and I'll give it a try.

When you set these settings, the viewer will see it like this!!!

    Torben.

I need ''two up (cover)'' not (facing), because it jumbles the pagination. c1 and c4 should be seen as single pages, and the rest of the doc should be spreads. However, regardles of which setting I choose it still opens in............Full Screen, Single page, in Reader.

    see attached. sample

It appears that you won't be able to use the Full Screen mode.

I need ''two up (cover)'' not (facing), because it jumbles the pagination. c1 and c4 should be seen as single pages, and the rest of the doc should be spreads.

I think it does make sense that it would show in ''book'' style in ''two page (cover)''. Obvioulsy, it is there as an option, (you just have to set a preference) and Acrobat is more of a book?app than a slideshow app.

If I combine the spreads into single pages, it would completely distroy the pagination.

I basically want my pdf to override ALL the preferences in Reader. That is really my question, maybe I should repost it that way?

If I combine the spreads into single pages, it would completely distroy the pagination.

    PS:

''Full screen mode is primarily intended for presentations - as a Powerpoint slide alias, so it would make no sence to show a spread, cause you would want to show a slide.'''

I ment in Acrobat sense - not a personal point of view.

    Torben.

Is there any way to do this using a script? Since I'm developing a form in LiveCycle 8.0 when I open my document in Acrobat Pro the Initial View options are disabled. Can I introduce any XML or JavaScript in LC in order to force the Viewer to for example open the bookmarks by default?

    Importing Photoshop image into Flash...

Hello, I just put together a banner image in photoshop that I would like to import into Flash and put a small navigation menu at the bottom but whenever I use the import to stage feature I am getting a large amount of discoloration in the image.?I've tried saving it as a .tif and .png but both came out looking poor.?Attached is an image to show what I mean.?Anyone have a suggestion on this?

    Importing Photoshop image into Flash...

Here's an article that may help to explain the problem and provide some help: http://www.creativepro.com/article/tips-for-managing-web-color-in-photoshop

    Importing Photoshop image into Flash...

Have you tried importing to library then converting to a movie clip or pasting directing from PhotoShop into Flash. One other option if you haven't already tried Optimize for Web in PhotoShop there you have more control over you optimization setting Flash is a vector program so it isn't the best at image optimization, so you want to optimize in PhotoShop (of FireWorks). If you haven't optimzed for web Flash will kind-of do this on an import but it won't do as good of a job as PhotoShop or FireWorks.

One more thing when you created this graphic did you make sure to use web color only, rmember the web views I think only 246 colors (somenthing like that) so anything outside of gamut will go to the next best thing.

    %26gt;%26gt;One more thing when you created this graphic did you make sure to use web color only, rmember the web views I think only 246 colors (somenthing like that) so anything outside of gamut will go to the next best thing.%26lt;%26lt;

That isn't true at all. The web safe color palette had nothing to do with the limitation of the web and everything to do with the limitation of color monitors at the time it was proposed. At the time the color palette was proposed many displays could only display a maximum of 256 colors on screen simultaneously. The operating systems reserved about 20 colors each for their own use and that left 216 available color slots. Anything about that number that tried to display on screen at the same time would caouse color banding (what gifs images do to photos).

But that was along time ago.

    Great article Rob...thanks for posting!
