As the title says, printing this image from CS4 results in a dramatically darker print than it should.
-Original Image is a TIF-format, at 8 bits, 60.2 megs (NOTE: Image sen to print at both 16 and 8 bits, while sending as 16 bit took forever, the output's brightness is not meaninfully different in either mode)
-Color profiled (Spider 3 elite) monitor, calibration verified 10 minutes prior to print with controlled ambient light
-HP ICC profile (factory) for APP (Advanced Photo Paper) glossy
-Photoshop (CS4) settings:?Photoshop manages color, proper icc profile selected, color space adobe rgb, rendering intent=perceptual, blackpoint compensation is on. Color settings are: Adobe RGB, FOGRA27, Gray Gamma 2.2, Dot Gain 20%, RGB/CMYK/Gray all set to ''Preserve Embedded Profiles'', Mismatch and missing warnings on
-Printer settings:?[Printing Shortcuts Tab-HP APP glossy selected, Quality=Best, Color Management=Application Managed Colors][Features Tab-HP APP glossy selected, quality=Best, preview is on] [Color Tab-Color Management=Application Managed Colors] NOTE: Printer calibration is current, heads and ink levels all report fine, printer is %26lt;2 weeks in operation.
- Print Preview is, if anything, even more vivid than the Photoshop version. NOTE: Image soft-proofed using HP ICC profile being used to perform the print. Every indication prior to hitting the Print button is that this should be an excellent print. Link to screenshot of HP preview and Photoshop view side by side is:

Following the...what I am coming to expect...extremely long wait time (even on a file that is only 60 megs) for printing to start, the resulting print is easily 30% darker than it should be (and looks washed out as well)!?Here is a link to a scan of the finished product, which I have validated online (color-managed Firefox browser) to reasonably reflect (the scanner is not pro) the accuracy of the issue. (NOTE: The scan did wash out the colors, but the scan is sent for brightness comparisons)

I would really appreciate some help with this.
Thanks

Out from CS4 to HP B9180 dramatically...No one has any thoughts on this one?
Out from CS4 to HP B9180 dramatically...I don't own this printer but I will offer some suggestions.
When I read this I get the impression you never had problems before. Is CS4 a new install for you? Have you had problems in the past?
What OS are you using?
Is CS4 updated to 11.0.1?
Looking on the HP web page the only Vista OS drivers offered are over two and a half years old. The XP drivers are old and the date listed is in 2006 Are your drivers up to date? If you have Vista it looks like HP just gave up on driver updates.
Also there are firmware updates listed under the each OS. Are the printer firmware updates applied?
Dec9,
CS4 is not a new install, is at 11.01, and the issues seem to be confined to this image based on a couple of other recent prints. I just did another test print with known-good output to compare it against, and it looks like it should.
OS is Vista 64 bit, and the HP software/firmware is as up to date as possible.
It is entirely possible that this is a printer issue, and I have the same post with the same links on the HP forum...so I'm aiming at both sides at the moment.?What concerns me the most is that the test print I just made of another image, with identical settings to the image I am struggling with, is flawless...the product is exactly what I would want in terms of colors, saturation, quality, and brightness...this would have me leaning away from the printer as the root cause if I did not see a perfectly acceptable print preview from the printer as well.?I am boggled at this point.
I could just fish around with pre-print brightness boosts in the printer dialogue to try and find the right spot, but that shoots repeatability/reliability/consistency dead in the you-know-where, and the output is really defying color managed printing expectations.
Thanks for weighing in on this one, and on I merrily go.

After a little google I did find a post stating that ''the printer software will convert itself back to the basic mode if any incompatibility with the OS is found''. It didn't state when the conversion happens. Interesting though.
Found this link. I don't think it has anything to do with your problem. But still interesting to read.

Here is a nice like to a google group. I didn't have time to read all of it but there is a lot of info.

Anyways, I wish you luck
Well, it looks like I will have to go the formal support route on this one.?I don't want to have to play with compensating for the output via guesswork instead of getting the consistency and results I need.
Good luck to ya!!
