IE6 (and earlier, I assume) doesn't honor transparencies in .gif and .gnd files. Is there a way around that or do I have to live with it?

Transparencies in IE6IE6 *does* support transparency in GIF.
IE 6 does not natively support alpha transparency in PNG.
That being said, there are workarounds. Do a web search on ''IE PNG fix'' to learn more. Please note that these IE 6 fixes do not work for repeating backgrounds with alpha transparency PNGs.
